A vibrant Noranda

Councillor Column
Aug 01 2019

The City has been working closely with sporting clubs, Hawaiian's Noranda and local group Noranda Vibes to bring more activity to the town centre. Already a go-to destination for shopping and sport, we want to see Noranda become the kind of place people come to meet friends, attend events, and spend their free time.

Led by community feedback, the Noranda Nook public space—complete with outdoor ping-pong table, picnic furniture and a Little Library—has been a great addition to the town centre. A footpath will soon connect the space to the shopping centre and recreation club, and brightly coloured age-friendly street furniture is almost ready to be installed.

Well-known local artist Brenton See will start work this month on a large-scale mural outside the Morley Noranda Recreation Club. The artwork has been specially designed to reflect Noranda’s native flora and fauna, featuring birds and wildlife seen around Lightning Swamp.

Next month, Noranda Vibes and the City will hold a planting day and community picnic at Noranda Nook. Keep your eye on the City’s Facebook page for details. I hope to see you there.
