City’s youngest at the forefront in new plan

First Youth Action Plan released

City’s youngest at the forefront in new plan
Sep 05 2019

The ideas, hopes and concerns of local young people have been integral to the formation of the City’s first Youth Action Plan – The Platform, endorsed at an Ordinary Council Meeting last night.

Developed in partnership with the City’s Youth Advisory Council, the plan is based on the findings of a four month engagement process working with nearly 400 people including young people working, studying or living in the community, parents, caregivers, youth agencies and schools.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said The Platform will provide a framework to guide the City’s staff and Council towards creating a future where young people can thrive.

“Local 12 – 25 year olds have told us that health and wellbeing, education and employment and community connection are the three biggest issues they are facing right now. This includes concerns about their mental health, managing their studies, finding work and staying connected with their peers.

“The Platform is here to make sure the youth events, initiatives and programs we offer help to address those issues and ensure young people have a voice in our community. We will also be able to better connect people with the services, groups and education providers they need to build a sustainable future in the City of Bayswater.

“I’d like to thank our Youth Advisory Council for all of the hard work they have put in to ensure this plan is a success. Our young people are the future of our City and it is vital we work with them to make sure that future is something they can be proud of.”
