As part of International Day of People With Disability, the City of Bayswater is proudly supporting the National Disability Services ACROD Parking Campaign, This Bay is Someone's Day.

The Western Australian campaign has been created with ACROD permit holders, local government and private enterprises to reduce the misuse of ACROD Parking Bays (accessible parking) in their respective localities.

Together with the City's Community Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee (CAIAC), the City of Bayswater recognises the importance of improving and promoting accessible parking infrastructure.

City of Bayswater Mayor Cr Dan Bull said the City was committed to making parking more accessible across the community.

"As part of the City's Access and Inclusion Plan, the City of Bayswater is committed to creating a community for people of all abilities, where everyone can enjoy the same experiences, and have equal access to all opportunities the City has to offer," said Cr Bull.

"The four year Plan includes a budget commitment to improve and promote accessible parking and infrastructure across Council owned and managed facilities and services.

"With more than 90,000 ACROD permit holders across Western Australia, This Bay is Someone's Day is an important campaign to highlight the impact that parking without a permit can have on someone's day."

In August, the City was fortunate to fast-track the Bayswater Waves ACROD bay upgrades as part of its $5.09 million local stimulus package to help the City recover from COVID-19 impacts.

A complete upgrade of the 25-year-old Bayswater Waves carpark included the opportunity to widen the ACROD car bays, now making it easier and faster for anyone with an ACROD permit to enter and exit the facility carpark from their vehicles.

In support of This Bay is Someone's Day, the City of Bayswater will place eye-catching road stickers at the Bayswater Waves ACROD parking bays, to raise awareness of the campaign.

The City of Bayswater is one of 25 local governments across WA supporting this campaign. For more information, contact the City's Community Development team on (08) 9272 0658.
