Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

“The City is working hard to do what it can to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Further to the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison’s earlier ban on non-essential indoor gatherings of more than 100 people, today he announced that enclosed venues will only be able to admit one person for every 4m2.

“These new rules will significantly impact our local businesses so the City has taken the proactive step of inviting them to go alfresco without a permit.

“We encourage local businesses to get creative, and adapt to this ever changing situation.

“Local restaurants can expand dining areas by placing tables outsides; for retailers it may be as simple as moving shelving or a display table outside.

“The only stipulation is that the City would need to see the business’ public liability insurance and footpaths and other areas would still need to remain accessible to the public.

“The City already has a new alfresco dining trial planned for this weekend. It involves the closure of Lyric Lane in Maylands in partnership with three local businesses.

“We understand this is a challenging time for all local businesses and we want to do everything we can to support them. Business owners can contact the City’s Placemakers for assistance."
