Redevelopment of the Noranda Netball courts is on track to be completed in time for the upcoming netball season, thanks to funding from the City's $5.09 million local economic and social stimulus package.

Scheduled for completion in March 2021 subject to fine weather, the upgrades include resurfacing of the 16 netball courts, drainage, kerbing, LED sports floodlighting and fencing.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the redevelopment of the popular facility would be of huge benefit to netball teams and supporters, and increase the profile of netball in Perth's inner-eastern suburbs.

"We're so pleased to be able to support our netball community by delivering these much-needed facility upgrades," he said.

"Playing sport helps build active and connected communities, and it is important facilities like Noranda Netball are maintained to a high standard, with safety a top priority.

"The sub-surfaces of the courts have been stripped and will be reconstructed, followed by top-coating, to ensure safe play in line with Netball WA standards."

Noranda Netball Association President Janice Clamp said the upgraded facility would raise the standard of competition for the local teams and increase player safety.

"The new courts will also give the Association the opportunity to hold carnivals and invite other associations to complete," she said.

"Clubs are really excited to play on the new courts and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone down when our 2021 winter season kicks off.

"This year's netball season is shaping up to be the best one yet."

The City initially allocated $550,000 in its 2019/20 Budget to the upgrade of the Noranda netball courts, and in May 2020, announced the remaining $850,000 to complete the upgrade via its $5.09million local economic and social stimulus package.
