Community groups and individuals can help build a brighter future for the City of Bayswater, with applications now open for funding support from the City's Community Grants program.

Under the program, the City provides financial assistance through its Better Bayswater grant to successful grant applicants to enable them to deliver a program, project or activity that will benefit the community.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the Community Grants Program was an amazing opportunity for organisations to deliver an activity that would make the City of Bayswater an even better place to live.

"We've seen some incredible projects brought to life as a result of the grant funding in previous rounds and we are taking it a step further this time, to focus on recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

"We have made some changes to our criteria this round to ensure priority is given to grant applications that directly or indirectly assist community and local business recovery.

"The priority areas we're encouraging applicants to consider are Health and Wellbeing, Community Connection, Support for Vulnerable People and Economic Security."

Former Better Bayswater grant recipient, Awards WA, used their grant funds to successfully deliver their Ignite Award program for 110 young people across five schools in the City of Bayswater.

The schools involved include Noranda Primary School, Durham Road School, Embleton Primary School, St Columba’s School and St Peter’s Primary School.

Ignite Award is a discovery program for young people aged 9 to 13 years to learn valuable skills, assist others in the community, be physically active and experience adventures outside of normal school activities.

"Bringing the Ignite Award program to local schools is a brilliant example of how our Better Bayswater grant can benefit the community in a way that may not otherwise be possible," Mayor Bull said.

"It's absolutely awesome to see bright young minds at our local schools be able to discover more about themselves and extend their learning through participation in the program.

"Applications for the Better Bayswater grant are now open and I encourage everyone with a great idea for a community project to apply."

Applicants can apply for up to a maximum of $5,000 for their project, subject to applicants matching a minimum of 50% of the project funds. The applicant’s contribution can be cash, in-kind or a combination of both.

Applications close Wednesday 31 March 2021.
