Two budding local writers have the opportunity to put pen to paper during a six week writer-in-residence program, supported by Centre for Stories and funded by the City of Bayswater.

Of 26 expressions of interest in the program, local writers Zarah Burgess and Francesca Walker were selected to undertake the writing residency, which will take place at popular Bayswater café, Drip Expresso.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the program was a fantastic way to showcase and support local writers.

"We're super excited to support these future writers in developing their craft and producing new work whilst increasing their profile in the community," he said.

"The project is part of the City's efforts in supporting local businesses in the Bayswater town centre and driving visitation to the area. It's also supported by the City's Cultural Plan, which aims to create a supportive environment where artists and creatives can discover their full potential.

"As part of the program, both writers will receive $400 for participating in the program, support from the Centre for Stories team and potential opportunities for their work to be published.

"The two talented individuals will be setting up shop and writing live in the café for 12 days across a four to six week period. During this time, the community are invited to come in, enjoy a coffee and cake, and chat to the writers about their work."

Zarah will be writing at Drip Expresso on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and Francesca on Mondays and Saturdays until late June. There will be a live reading and event held at the café in July to celebrate the completion of the program.
