Community Planting Days rally volunteers for record planting of 30,000.

The City of Bayswater is hoping to see big turnouts at Comunity Planting Days to plant a record number of 30,000 native plants during this winter planting season.

Mayor Dan Bull says the City has seen impressive turnout each year so far.

"Last year community volunteers managed to get a huge number of 20,000 native plants into the ground at our community planting days. This year the aim is 30,000, so we need as many hands as possible.

"The help from volunteers achieves more than City could do alone. We simply wouldn’t have the capacity to see the 80,000 plants we have ordered this year into the ground. The City has capacity to plant 50,000 of these plants. The cost of using contractors to plant the 30,000 remaining is inhibitive. Without the help we get from those generous volunteers, this wouldn't be possible.

"The extraordinary support volunteers have offered over the past years has assisted the City with regeneration projects in natural areas, improved biodiversity in urban parks and even reducing pollution into the Bayswater Brook system, which drains into the Swan River. All of these outcomes are what can be achieved when people care enough to come and get their hands dirty.

"We see people come from all over Perth to join in the fun and be part of this incredible community.

"It isn't only plants that grow out of these events. Being part of a community planting day, people are connecting to these beautiful places, to the natural flora and fauna, and to each other.
