City of Bayswater residents and community groups can help reuse and rehome pre-loved goods next month with the return of the popular nationwide Garage Sale Trail.

The multi-award-winning event aims to reduce items sent to landfill by encouraging residents to reuse and recycle.

Over 13-14 and 20-21 November, the City will join councils around Australia for more than 1,300 garage sales in what is the country’s largest sustainability and community festival.

The Trail also presents the perfect opportunity to tick some early Christmas shopping off your list.

Kathie Mitchell from Starting Over Support (SOS) is one local seller, opening the doors of the community organisation’s shop to help those affected by crisis.

All the volunteer service’s funds go towards supporting families and individuals moving on from domestic violence, homelessness, mental health crises or elder abuse.

The SOS Bayswater shop, Curios and Collectables, will open from 9am to 4pm on both Saturdays, selling a wide range of antiques and collectables, homewares, furniture, Christmas items and more. The shop will also remain open on Saturdays in the lead up to Christmas.

The 2021 Garage Sale Trail takes place online and in person, meaning you can host a sale via Facebook Live or Instagram or browse items for sale from the comfort of your home.

If you’re not already hosting a sale, there’s still time to register for free. To map your physical or virtual shopping route in the City, visit www.garagesaletrail.com.au/bayswater.
