The Bayswater Primary School oval will be a popular destination for all ages during both school term and school holidays, after the City funded upgrades to the shared green space.

Initiated by the Bayswater Primary School P&C gardening committee and completed by the school, the project includes the installation of a triple bay swing within a sand softfall, resurfaced multi-use sports court and picnic table.

The City contributed $16,388 to the capital works project through its $5.09 million economic and social stimulus package to upgrade the space.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said he was pleased to see the stimulus project completed which would be of mutual benefit to the school and broader community.

"Projects funded by the City's stimulus package are almost wrapped up after we introduced the package in May last year to support the community in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic”, he said.

“We've seen so many fantastic projects like this one completed over the past 12 months.

“What makes this project extra special is it doesn’t just benefit Bayswater Primary School students and St Columba’s Primary School, the whole community can enjoy the space. Outside of school hours, the oval is open to the community where local families often visit to play casual sport, exercise their dog and bring children to play.

“Neighbourhood public spaces are essential for people to keep active and socialise, and the project helps us increase and diversify play opportunities for the local Bayswater community.

“As part of the oval makeover, the existing sports court has been resurfaced and includes a new adjustable height netball tower, plus a triple bay swing and seating to support users of the area.

The oval is located between Leake Street and Roberts Street near the Bayswater town centre.
