Local sporting teams and spectators will now benefit from a new 463-seat grandstand at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

As part of the $6.7 million redevelopment of Morley Sport and Recreation Centre, the completion of the new grandstand will allow NBL1 team East Perth Eagles to return to their home facility for training and home games.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the City is thrilled to provide improved sporting facilities for players and spectators.

“East Perth Eagles can now host their games back at their dedicated home facility, Morley Sport and Recreation Centre, in front of more spectators. We’re proud to support the association in getting the facilities they needed right here in Morley,” she said.

“The new grandstand will also provide spectators with a better viewing experience thanks to the inclusion of more comfortable individual seats, which replaced the previous wooden benches.

“Thanks to the redevelopment, Morley Sport and Recreation Centre is now a high-performance sporting facility that can be utilised by our elite basketball teams.”

In addition to the grandstand, the redevelopment included two basketball courts within a new sports hall, new external sports floodlighting, pitch realignment on the adjacent rugby fields, additional toilets and change rooms, new sports flooring, aerobic room extension and external accessible pathways.

The redevelopment was supported by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries through a $2 million Community Sport and Recreation Facility Fund grant with the support of the Member for Morley, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA and the City's $5.1 million stimulus package.
