The City will celebrate 50 years of the Avon Descent with a Finish Line Festival on Sunday 13 August, from 11am to 4pm.
Each year, paddlers and powercraft crew race to cross the finish line of the epic 124km journey down the Avon and Swan Rivers at Riverside Gardens in Bayswater.
Spectators, families and friends are invited to attend the free community event to welcome competitors and enjoy the electric atmosphere of the iconic race alongside a fun day of entertainment, rides and activities.
Face painting, bubble making, a creative play space and carnival rides will keep the little ones entertained, while adults can browse a range of locally made products at market stalls.
Spectators will be able to listen to live commentary and watch the race live on a big screen, with a range of tasty food options available to purchase from food trucks.
The City is working with vendors to reduce single-use plastics at this event. Festival-goers are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles to fill at the Water Corporation water station, and make use of their own reusable containers and cups.
Car parking will be available at Riverside Gardens, with access from Milne Street off Guildford Road.
ACROD parking will be available at the car park at the end of Milne Street.
Dogs must be on lead in all areas of Riverside Gardens West during this free community event.
Riverside Gardens East (accessed via King William Street) will remain an off-lead park.
The City of Bayswater acknowledges Lotterywest as a major supporter of the Finish Line Festival. The event is also supported by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attraction's Plastic Free Riverpark program, which aims to reduce single-use plastics.
