Rediscover reading this Library and Information Week
Jul 06 2023

To celebrate Library and Information Week from 31 July to 6 August, City libraries will host a series of events encouraging the local community to rediscover reading to boost their health and wellbeing.

With five special events on offer throughout the week, readers of all ages can take part in the celebrations and rediscover reading.

Young readers aged 3 to 8 years old are invited to a pirate-themed workshop where they can enjoy a swashbuckling adventure story and treasure hunt, while young adults are invited to sip on bubble tea as they listen to comic book authors Shane McCarthy, Campbell Whyte and Aśka share their insights into the world of comics. Adults can come along to three special author talks to enjoy a cuppa or a bevvy and hear Alexander Thorpe, Mary Greenwood and Sasha Wasley to discuss their new releases.

With a 2023 theme of ‘rediscover reading’, City libraries are encouraging all ages to adopt the habit of reading and reap the positive impacts on health and wellbeing. Reading regular plays a crucial role in developing children’s literacy and allows young adults to build their empathy, self-esteem and imagination. For older adults, reading keeps the mind engaged.

The City’s libraries have a number of collections available for members of all capabilities and interests to rediscover and enjoy the benefits of reading, including adult fiction, young adult fiction, junior fiction and picture books, graphic novels, large print books, e-books and magazines.

To become a member of the library and rediscover reading, download the City of Bayswater Library Service app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
