Partnership adds vibrancy to Morley

The City of Bayswater has partnered with RAC to revitalise Morley with an alfresco-style activation at the corner of Walter Road West and Wellington Road and street improvements to Progress Street.

Through its Reconnect WA initiative, RAC partnered with the City to deliver the ‘A Connected Morley’ project to reinvigorate the Morley activity centre by turning unused public spaces into vibrant areas for people to enjoy.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the City is proud to deliver projects that make Morley a more pedestrian friendly and attractive place to shop, dine and linger.

“It’s fantastic to see an under-utilised area on the corner of Walter Road West and Wellington Road transform into an alfresco-style public space for customers of local businesses Bite My Banh Mi, Bobaboba and King Hot Pot to enjoy,” she said.

“The inclusion of planter boxes, tables, benches, umbrellas, festoon lighting and a colourful mural has created a vibrant and inviting area for diners.

“Artist Jason Green has brought the wall of King Hot Pot to life with a stunning mural inspired by the Asian influence of nearby Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants.”

In addition to the upgrades at the corner of Walter Road West and Wellington Road, street furniture was also installed along Progress Street to provide pedestrians with shaded resting spots.

“We are pleased to be partnering with RAC to deliver a project that encourages people to walk and stay longer in Morley’s main streets, celebrates cultural diversity and makes Morley an even more exciting place to visit,” Mayor Piffaretti said.

Will Gosby, RAC Acting Group Executive, Social and Community Impact said RAC is proud to support projects that improve the vibrancy of streets and public spaces.

“We’re passionate about creating more lively streets and inviting public spaces for Western Australians to enjoy, and we hope these changes will increase visitation and support local businesses throughout the Morley activity centre,” Mr Gosby said.

“This project is a great example of how we can create more pedestrian-friendly and vibrant streets for the community to enjoy.”
