The City is calling for community input on the design of a new urban forest at Riverside Gardens East.

In March 2023, Council supported the City partnering with Greening Australia to create an urban forest between Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary and Memorial Drive in Bayswater.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti encouraged community members to have their say on how they would like to enjoy the new space.

“Riverside Gardens is a much-loved place for our community to exercise, play and enjoy the river. I’m delighted to see the creation of an urban forest at one of the City’s largest and most popular reserves for all to enjoy,” Mayor Piffaretti said.

“This project will see an open grassed area transformed into a natural parkland, offering an inviting, shaded area for people to use, as well as increasing our tree canopy and biodiversity.”

Design aspects could include picnic nodes, nature play, reflection points, pathways, park furniture and opportunities for education and interpretation.

The project space lies between Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary and Memorial Drive, extending north to King William Street and south to the fenced dog exercise area.

To have your say, visit Engage Bayswater and fill out the survey by 5pm, Monday 13 November 2023.

Hard copies of the survey are available from the Civic Centre and City’s three libraries.

The City will also host two pop-up sessions next to the Memorial Drive car park at Riverside Gardens East on Monday 30 October from 5 to 7pm and Saturday 4 November from 3 to 5pm.
