New citizens celebrated at free community barbecue
Jan 04 2024

The City is hosting a free community barbecue to welcome its newest citizens and celebrate the 2024 Community Citizens of the Year on Friday 26 January.

Festivities will take place between 8 and 11.30am at the City’s Civic Centre, commencing with a smoking ceremony, before new Australians are officially welcomed into the Bayswater community with a special citizenship ceremony taking place in the Embleton Room. The winners of the City of Bayswater 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards will also be announced during the ceremony.

Community members are invited to enjoy a morning of entertainment along with a free sausage sizzle, coffee and ice cream on the front lawn of the City’s Civic Centre.

The morning will feature entertainment for all ages, including live music from award-winning Whadjuk-Noongar musician Phil Bartlett, sand art, face painting, bubble making and other children’s activities.

The City’s Community BBQ Breakfast and Citizenship Celebration is assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council, and is supported by the City’s community partner iAct Film & Drama Studios.
