The City has recognised five Bayswater locals for their dedication to serving the community, as part of the annual Community Citizen of the Year Awards for 2024.

Mayor Filomena Piffaretti congratulated the award winners for their commitment to making the City a better place to live.

“The City’s 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Award recipients have each demonstrated an outstanding commitment to serving the Bayswater community,” she said.

“These individuals have dedicated their time to supporting our community in a number of areas, including health and wellbeing, small business, environmental conservation and local history.

“Each award recipient has contributed to making our City an inclusive and vibrant place to live, and I congratulate them on their achievements”.

The City partnered with Auspire to present the Community Citizen of the Year, Young Community Citizen of the Year, Senior Community Citizen of the Year, and Active Citizenship Award. The City also presented its own Outstanding Women in Leadership Award.

Local business owner Greg Da Rui was announced as the City’s 2024 Community Citizen of the Year for his involvement in a number of local community organisations, including Bayswater Traders Association, Baysie Rollers and Future Bayswater. Greg regularly contributes to charities and, through Future Bayswater’s 6053 Bayswater Food Pantry initiative, has provided food and personal items to those in need.

Senior Community Citizen of the Year was awarded to Andrew Mollat, who volunteers as a community bus driver with the City of Bayswater.

High school student Lola Donkin received the Young Community Citizen of the Year Award for her time assisting the Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association in updating their street art displays and cataloguing art.

Friends of Lightning Swamp was awarded the Active Citizenship Award. For more than 20 years, the group has been involved in the rehabilitation of the wetlands, attending community planting days, weeding and collecting rubbish in the reserve.

Renee Cabassi received the Outstanding Women in Leadership Award for promoting physical health and social connection among local women through her small business, Say Yes Fitness, and her involvement in the Bayswater Women’s Hub.
