Local Planning Strategy adopted by Council

The City’s first Local Planning Strategy (LPS) was adopted last night at the March Ordinary Council Meeting.
The new LPS will guide planning and development within the City for the next 10 to 15 years.
The strategy identifies areas where growth will be targeted, ensuring housing, employment and new infrastructure is well positioned to meet the needs of the City’s expanding population.
It will guide the delivery of well-planned, diverse and walkable neighbourhoods that consider the natural environment, will encourage a range of housing options, and provide opportunities for employment closer to home. It will also support the creation of vibrant town centres.
From May to June last year, community consultation was held to receive feedback on the draft LPS. The community also provided input into development of the LPS through the award-winning Building Bayswater consultation project.
The LPS will now be submitted to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) for consideration and recommendation to the Minister for Planning.
Once adopted, the LPS will inform the review of the City’s Town Planning Scheme No. 24 and development of a new Local Planning Scheme.
